Since joining CA in September 2006, Mark has absorbed himself in all things Total War in a cunning attempt to improve his win/loss record in Medieval II's
multiplayer mode.
When he isn't reporting on the latest Total War news or cooking up new features for the websites, Mark likes to get CA's BAFTA out of the display
cabinet and practise his Oscar-worthy acceptance speech.
Biggest achievement to date; "Seeing five films in a row at the cinema, or possibly the time I received a funny audio message from Hulk Hogan!"

I am a great fan of the TW-series and have played it since Medieval 1. However, with your latest game, Empire Total War I have some serious stability problems. Everytime I fight a land battle the game crashes back to desktop. This sometimes happens during the battle itself or at the end of the battle. The point is, that I am never able to end a battle because of this issue. Somehow I suppose that this problem could have to do with some kind of incompability issues between Empire and Nvidia-drivers.
When I was using ETW version 1.2 with Nvidia drivers like 186.xx the game would crash to desktop. Then I read something about CA having tested the game with Nvidia-driver 182.02 and it worked more or less stable with me. When 1.3 came out I installed the new 190.38 driver of Nvidia- resulting in the issue I have just told you about... constant crashes to desktop in every land battle.
What would you recommend I should do? Is CA working on this problem? I can send you my dxdiag if that helps.
Thank you in advance for your efforts!
Sincerely,
Akhrehn

I would like to send my DXDIAG to someone at your firm who can interpret it. I hope you can facilitate that.

Background:
The Swedes had very offensive tactics in the great northern war beginning of the 18th century. They often broke the enemy with these tactict, but with heavy losses in the beginning of the battle and taking enemy lives in toll at the later part of the battle. However, the Swedish cavalry had a special formation which high success rate. It consisted of a V uppside down in several ranks with one riders knee behind the other in this extremely tight formation. Enemy lines hit by this close formation rarely held their line and broke.
Proposal: New special swedish cavalry unit being able to have this very tight formation.

Olof

Indeed you could add a unit history tab to let you see other details such as where it had served or which battles it had fought in. This all helps to create an immersive world.
I love the game. Thanks.

Please check out the forum thread titled "Constructive Feedback after release of Patch 1.31" for useful feedback on the game following the release of patch 1.31. I hope it may come in handy.

Just wondering why I am incapable of even trying the higher graphics settings. I have a rather decent computer, though surely not currently top of the line, but for whatever reason I cannot even attempt to try anything higher than 'medium' settings. It has never been my experience with other games (even other total war games) that graphics settings were simply inaccessible to test for certain computers, but if this is the case then I am content to let it be... but it does seem rather unreasonable given that at maxed settings (everything medium, huge scale, and 1280x1024) I do not experience any slow-down at all.
Let me know what you think, and thanks for any help that you may provide. Sorry if this was not the correct place to ask this question, but there appears to be no support mechanisms on the total war homepage, and your publisher appears to have no contact information at all.
thanks again,
Brennan

Even after doing a fresh install, 10 land battles later.. CTD. No problem, right? Loaded up last save, went to the same battle.. CTD. I then decided to do the old "Turn off the PC and turn it back on in order to dump the memory cache", and ta-da.. I can play through the land battle.. 2 land battles later.. CTD. Sounds to me, after all this time I've been nagging you about your engine's memory leak issues, you still haven't nipped the problem in the bud. You guys are by far the WORSE gaming company ever when it comes to next-gen stability.
I had to open five instances of Crysis and curl in the fetal position just to whisper to my souped-up rig that it isn't his fault. It's not my rig letting me down, it's your sheisty core-testing. Stop releasing teaser-patches and slay this dragon in one hit, Newb.

I appreciate you not blocking or deleting comments from the customers who really have something to say. Might wanna share that same ethic with the board nazis here who paint a picture of sunflowers and teddy bears. As a loyal gaming consumer, I have no problem putting my money in the hands of developers who make good games. Your company makes good games. E:TW? Not so much. Although I won't give up. Why? Because you still have my money. Oh, and I don't kiss ass like some of these fanbois & girls. I tell it how it is, straight up. Here's the message. CA needs to get their ass in gear. Stop pushing out useless patches every month and start focusing on the core issues that cause this game to be unplayable for the majority of players. So, here's the post I put up, that will most likely be deleted. I'll share it with you so you can act as a vault of sorts for those whove been silenced:
Don't make fun of the programmers or your post'll be deleted. In fact, requesting anything above their normal work flow from CA is grounds for post deletion. It's amazing how many unsatisfied customers are snuffed/banned out of existense for just stating the obvious.
Stability is key to making a game enjoyable. I'll take stability over the gloss and glam of graphics. Slowdowns in 21st century gaming on a hardcore rig is unacceptable. The majority of players here exceed the base requirements for this game, and I can run any current next gen game on my rig with no problem. I can run Sims 3 on 4 different windows before I notice a FPS slowdown. I run a tight-ship when it comes to my gear. Always have. Upgrade my equipment religiously every 6 months. But this game sure is a +@!$%!.
If CA just simply dropped the ball on this programming failure of E:TW's engine, and brought the same Empire Canon to Medieval 2's (nearly perfect) stable engine, I'd probably not leave my house for a few weeks. Maybe take some vacation time from work to enjoy a nice working stable game, with all the joys of 18th century warfare. It's all about the fun factor, it really is. The thrill of playing against an enemy that somewhat resembles the thought process of a 2 year old human is the scariest opponent one could ever face (I.e, M2TW, Very Hard/Very Hard). I really do hope CA tightens their shotgroup with the stability and mem leak issues. I want them to be successful, really. But, at this rate, we're not going to see a working stable game until the end of next year.
